Laelia kennedyi

No, this is not named in honor of John F., it is named after the late George Kennedy, a very avid California medical doctor who explored much of the world for orchid species last century. Many of his excellent articles are published in the Orchid Digest. This species species has the plant habit of Laelia autumnalis and crawshayana but blooms earlier than autumnalis. It blooms in September. It is found south of the habitat of crawshayana at the same elevation in the state of Jalisco. Crawshayana blooms in February.
