Encyclia adenocarpa

This is a more colorful adenocarpa from the state of Sonora. Weyman found large colonies of the same species, with no coloration in the lip, near his home in the mountains between Izucar de Matamoros and Oaxaca, growing in rock outcroppings along the roadside. He crossed this species with Encyclia pterocarpa and created an offspring which an ex-president of the Mexican Orchid Society wanted to name Encyclia bella. Mr. Raul Triay, if you see this, let Weyman know and he will officially register it as per your desire expressed to him over 10 years ago. The hybrid resurfaced as a "NEW SPECIES" on the internet, but it was rapidly debunked by Weyman. The hybrid wasn't that good lookin to be called "Bella" which means "Beautiful" in Spanish, but, it did bloom profusely wherever it was grown and grew "like a rabit", creating pots full of psuedobulbs and leaves in no time, with blossoms every spring. Maybe by crossing this hybrid with one of the colorful rupiculous Laelias you could produce easy to grow and bloom, colorful Epilaelias for the high plains of Mexico.
