Barkeria uniflora

Sorry for the poor picture, we have more which will be up soon. This is the largest single flowered species of Barkeria and was aptly named "uniflora", even though you will often have 2-3 flowers on one inflorescence. Weyman frequently tells me of his adventures into Oaxaca and Chiapas in the early eighties awith a close friend from Arkansas. One of his most exciting adventures was treking for miles up dry stream beds in Oaxaca, looking for leafless twigs with pretty flowers, Barkeria uniflora. They were there, not in great numbers, but most likely because they were not all in bloom. This is another great Brakeria, more warm growing than Halbingeri/melanocaulon, but, none the less requiring that "DEFINTE REST PERIOD" in late winter and early spring.
